4media group recently worked with Stokes Sauces to discuss the nations BBQ habits, including their dos and don’ts and our ‘Keep Calm and BBQ On’ mentality. 

Despite our famous summer weather, we’re a hardy bunch who won’t let anything come in between our love of grilled food and all the sides that go with it.

Joining us in our own studio for the broadcast day and to tell us more about the reseach was BBQ expert Rick Sheepshanks.  

The Campaign

Research for Stokes Sauces, run by our in-house research division, Atomik Research, shows almost half (48%) of Brits have already hosted or attended a BBQ in 2018, with 21% of Brits barbecuing as early as January! It was more than likely cooked on a new BBQ too, as stats reveal Brits are more likely to buy a BBQ than actually clean the one they have. In fact nearly half (43%) of Brits (68% of millennials!) admit that they’d rather splash out on a new grill, than go through the trauma of cleaning off last year’s burnt burgers. 

Things are pretty close when it comes to deciding on our favourite thing to throw down on the Barbie, with nearly half of Brits (48%) confirming sausages are the kings of the grill, closely followed by beef burgers (45%), chicken kebabs (29%), and chicken things or wings (28%).

The research also revealed that nearly 3 in 10 (28%) Brits won’t allow downpours to dampen spirits and have had a BBQ under an umbrella. In fact, over a third of Brits  are more likely to carry on regardless than cancel leading to almost 6 in 10 Brits have hosted or attended a BBQ in the rain.


The media team secured 15 broadcast interviews including Sky News Radio, 3 BBC stations including BBC Leeds, BBC Suffolk and BBC Tees, as well as other regional and commercial stations.

On top of that, the story also landed on 4 pieces of news coverage across print and digital including Mirror, the Sunday Mirror and East Anglia Daily Times.
