4media group worked with Boris Starling on the promotion of his book:  ‘Bluffer’s Guide to Brexit’, conducting research and broadcast day to promote it. The campaign consisted of research and broadcast elements in order to highlight how often we Brits attempt to bluff our way through a conversation – from news, wine, sports, politics and everything in between, but particularly Brexit! The campaign was hosted by Boris Starling, author of ‘Bluffer’s Guide to Brexit’

According to research run by our in-house research division, Atomik Research, 79% of Brits find themselves having a conversation on a subject they know nothing about.  Despite the fact they may have only read the headline or seen the half-time score, 38% of UK adults bluff their way through chit-chat because they want to be polite. The majority of Brits (54%) do so simply because they want to show an interest. 28% do so because they don’t want to feel left out of the conversation, and 23% just want to seem knowledgeable.

Brexit was the biggest cause of bluffing, with 34% admitting they have no idea what is going on with Brexit at the moment despite getting sucked into conversations and sharing their opinion.  Over three in ten (31%) people just reiterate front page Brexit news to sound as if they know what they’re talking about.

The broadcast day for the campaign was very successful with 15 broadcast interviews secured, including Sky News Sunrise, Sky News Radio, BBC Radio Hereford & Worcester, BBC Radio Nottingham, talkRADIO, BFBS and many more national and regional stations. You can view the full coverage here.
