4media group were commissioned by Hiscox to promote their Cyber Readiness Report 2019 via a broadcast PR campaign.  This campaign reflects the 6th year that 4media group and Hiscox have collaborated on broadcast PR campaigns. The broadcast day was fronted by Cyber CEOGareth Wharton, who discussed the findings of the report and give advice to businesses and consumers on how better to protect ourselves against the cyber threat.

Hiscox’s report found a sharp increase in the number of cyber-attacks year-on-year, up 45% compared to 2018. The third annual Hiscox Cyber Readiness Report has put both private and public sector organisations under the microscope and found that well over half (61%) have fallen victim to a cyber-attack in the past 12 months.

Larger firms remain the most likely to suffer from a cyber-attack but the proportion of small firms reporting incidents has increased from 33% to 47%. Despite this, just under a third of small businesses insure themselves against cyber-attacks.

The international report is based on responses from over 5,000 businesses, including 1,000 here in the UK. Comparing firms from across seven different countries, the UK appears to have the lowest cyber security budgets. On average, UK businesses individually spend £708,660 on cyber security –almost half a million less than the global average of £1.15 million.

Only 10% of firms across the seven countries can be considered cyber security ‘experts’, with most firms (74%) regarded as cyber ‘novices’ – a worrying fact when it comes to our personal and sensitive data.

The campaign secured extensive media coverage including interviews on BBC 5 Live’s Wake Up to Money, BBC Radio 4’s Today Programme, BBC World Service , Jazz FM, BBC News 24, Sky News’ Ian King Live, BBC News Online & more.
